Country Club Road over Patterson Creek Bridge Rehabilitation
Town of Union, Endwell, NYWATCH THE PROGRESS
Beginning in January 2018, the Town of Union, (a small municipality located in upstate New York) began the arduous process of holding public meetings to discuss the rehabilitation of a highly utilized, 47.5 foot single span, steel beam bridge at Country Club Road over Patterson Creek. Traffic counts revealed the bridge experiences approximately 10,000 vehicles per day, a clear indication any interruption in traffic flow would significantly impact commuters, residents and local businesses.
Delta Transportation Group won the opportunity to partner with the town and NYSDOT officials to plan and engineer a bridge design. Tamer Osman, Delta’s Senior Project Manager, presented a 3-D animation to officials which visually demonstrated ABC technology, promising a 21-day ‘dig to drive’ completion schedule.
Funding had been secured as part of the BRIDGE NY initiative. Construction began on July 22 and the bridge was opened for traffic on August 12th, on-time and under budget at $1.3 million.
PROJECT SCOPE
The project scope included superstructure replacement with new galvanized steel beams, substructure repairs, bearing replacement, heavy stone fill scour protection, a temporary on-site pedestrian bridge, installation of ten (51’ 4 7/8”L x 49’W 4” x 10”D) deck panels from Binghamton Precast, the use of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) to connect the 5.75” wide panel joints, new sidewalks, a Texas Bridge Barrier, and reconstruction of approximately 400 feet of the bridge approach roadways.
