New Jersey Turnpike Interchange 6-9 Widening (Structure 57.46)

This project provided the design of a 3 barrel precast concrete arch to facilitate widening of travel lanes along the New Jersey Turnpike. The 3 arch openings (21 foot x 16 foot) spanned a total of 70 feet and were supported on precast concrete spread footings. The extensions sections were constructed of straight and skewed sections and were connected to the existing structure using a cast-in-place concrete closure pour.

The arch was designed in accordance with the load factor design method using RISA 3D software and 2002 AASHTO Standard Specification for Highway Bridges as modified by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) Design Manual.
