Amazon CVG International Airport Hub Multiple Box Culverts

Delta was contracted by Wieser Concrete Products, Inc to provide structural design for stormwater drainage box culverts at the Amazon Hub at the CVG International Airport. In spring 2019, Amazon began phase one of its $1.5 billion project at the Cincinnati/ Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG). The project will include a 2.6 million square foot sort facility with auxiliary buildings and up to 100 total aircraft parking positions with room to expand in the future. Delta was contracted to design the precast concrete box culverts and custom junction chambers used for the runoff on the taxi lanes and new sortation building. The special culvert designs had a range of fill heights varying from 3’ to 48’ of fill. Additionally, HS-25 and aircraft loading requirements had to be met throughout the project. Many of the culverts had 10% silica fume added to the mix design to help mitigate the effects of the de-icing agent on the concrete while in the culvert.
